Common Ground Alaska Creamy Hot Cocoa

This creamy hot cocoa recipe is one I tweaked for years until it’s absolutely the most chocolatey, creamy, and delicious possible!

I tested it on a bunch of youth group kids who devoured it and now it’s a staple here all winter long.

You’re gonna love this! I make a whole gallon at a time and we never throw any away – leftovers go in the fridge but they always disappear within a day or two.

Hot Cocoa

Smooth & Creamy Hot Cocoa

This hot cocoa recipe has been in our family for years. I can remember when our grown kids were young, the youth group kids would request this for every cold weather outing. It's so good - I tend to make it a gallon at a time.

Ingredients

  • 2/3 C. Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 1 1/2 C. Sugar
  • Salt
  • 2/3 C. Boiling Water
  • 8 C. Milk
  • 1 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1 C. Heavy Whipping Cream

Instructions

  • In a saucepan, stir cocoa, sugar, salt, and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring continually. Boil for 2 minutes. (Don't have your temp too high, and be sure to stir continually because this will scorch easily.)
  • Stir in milk and heat - but do not allow it to boil.
  • Remove from heat and add vanilla and cream.
  • Pour into mugs and enjoy!
  • **I keep this in a pot on my wood stove when we have company so the kids (let's be real here - so EVERYONE) can easily grab a cup full after sledding or playing outside.
