FILL YOUR LARDER: ONE DAY LEARNING RETREAT – TAKE 3!
$125.00
Both classes filled up so quickly, we are offering a third! I’m SO excited about this!
What an amazing day we have planned for you! Building community and learning together is one of the core values of our farm. Learn how to fill your larder (that’s an old-fashioned word for pantry) with wholesome, tasty, and safe food for your family with foods you’ve grown, sourced locally, or found in bulk.
This incredible one-day intensive learning retreat is taking place on September 9 from 10 am – 5 pm at Common Ground Alaska farm in Big Lake and is limited to 18 people. It is a rain-or-shine event so bring clothing for whatever the day holds — and bug spray — don’t forget the bug spray!
Our intensive classes include the basics of food preservation:
- Canning
- Fermenting
- Sourdough basics
- Making yogurt & cheese
- Food storage
- Dehydrating
- .. and more!
PLUS:
* A tour of our 4-acre orchard
* And a tour of our garden that feeds us all winter long!
Plus you get to spend the day with women just like you who are trying to provide the best food possible for their families! Let’s learn together!
Rough agenda for the day:
10 am: Introduction
10:15 am: Canning Basics (help make and can a jar of jam to take home)
11:30 am: Freezing, dehydrating, and other methods of food storage
12:15 pm: Lunch time! Bring a sack lunch for yourself and we will have a few snacks for you, too!
12:45 pm: An interactive orchard tour – learn the ins and outs of having an orchard in Alaska.
1:15 pm: Fermenting Fun (including making a “community” ferment to take home)
2:30 pm: Simple Sourdough Basics (take home your own starter)
3:30 pm: A tour of our garden that provides much of the food we eat all winter long
4:00 pm: Simple yogurt and cheese class (sample and take home something yummy that we make)
The day ends at 5 pm.
BONUS – FILL YOUR SOUL:
If you’re so inclined, we will be starting the day at 9 am with a short worship time and bible study. This is completely free to ticket holders but not required.
See you there!
