SPRING FRUIT TREE GRAFTING

2024 Grafting Class

Learn how to graft your own Alaska fruit trees so you can fill your orchard affordably. Each grafting class only has 13 openings, so please look carefully at the dates and times to make sure you choose the right ones for you.

EACH PARTICIPANT WILL TAKE HOME ONE GRAFTED APPLE TREE AND ONE GRAFTED PLUM TREE.

You will learn to graft and then graft your own apple and plum trees to take home with you.

EACH TICKET IS PER PERSON!

Choose which class works best for your schedule below:

Class 1: Saturday, April 6, from 11 am – 1 pm.

CLASS 2: Saturday, April 6, from 2-4

CLASS 3: Saturday, April 13, from 11 am -1 pm

CLASS 4: Saturday, April 13, from 2-4

This class is being offered IN-PERSON only and is taking place on the farm at 6189 S. Carat St. Big Lake, AK 99652

Each participant in this interactive Alaska homestead class will learn all about fruit tree grafting INCLUDING grafting your own apple and plum trees to take home!

This class will be taught by Gene Hogate, owner of Common Ground Alaska.

In this interactive class we will discuss:

  • How to tell if your scion wood is good
  • Several different grafting techniques
  • Alaska hardy rootstock varieties
  • Grafting aftercare
  • What to do if your graft is unsuccessful
