DO DRYER BALLS REALLY CONTROL STATIC – EVEN IN A COLD SNAP?

So, as we’ve been working to take chemicals out of the house, I’ve been experimenting with several natural items to replace the things we’re used to using. One of these replacements is to toss the dryer sheets in the trash and use wool dryer balls instead.

DO DRYER BALLS REALLY CONTROL STATIC, ESPECIALLY IN A COLD SNAP?

At first, I was not impressed. We use a lot of natural fibers which seem to create so much static, especially when the weather is crazy cold. They all came out of the dryer full of static. Wool socks created mini lightning storms when I pried them from my cotton tops and everything crackled more than usual.

I thought for sure they weren’t working at all.

However, when I started folding the clothes, I noticed something I didn’t expect. When I was using dryer sheets and the clothes had static, the more I moved them as I was folding them, the worse the static would get. Then, when I’d try to wear the clothes, they got even stickier! You know the feeling!

The clothes that were dried using dryer balls were just the opposite.  As I shook the clothes and folded them, I noticed there was less and less static. By the time I was wearing the clothing, it had no static at all! I did not expect this!

They were working!

BUT SOMETIMES THEY NEED REPLACED

Fast forward to this week, the weather got colder and I noticed the clothes were sticking together worse than usual and I started questioning my dryer balls. It’s been awhile since our last cold spell so I wondered if I’d just forgotten how bad the static gets during cold snaps.

But when I was emptying the dryer, I noticed the balls had lint on them and they looked a little ragged so I changed them out for a new set.

Guess what? That fixed the problem!

With the new dryer balls, my clothes are back to normal, no static at all except right when they come out of the dryer.
