Apple Taste Test Anyone!?

Last week Abbi, Gene, and I gathered apples from our orchard and sat down for a good old-fashioned apple tasting.  And of course, our cow Mabel joined in too, we can’t leave her out of sampling what’s growing on the farm!

We tested our later-ripening varieties, and let me tell you, it’s nearly impossible to pick a favorite!

Here’s the lineup we tried:

• Dexter Jackson
• Breakey
• September Ruby
• Prairie Sun
• Prairie Sensation (twice!)
• Goodland
• Carroll (Abby’s fave)
• Prairie Magic (Tandy & Gene’s choice!)

Tasting these side by side reminded us just how much character each apple has. Some lip-puckering tart and crunchy, some super sweet, some perfect for baking, and others are best enjoyed fresh.
