REGENERATIVE GARDENING IN ALASKA – WASILLA

Boy oh boy do we have a treat for you! Ellen VandeVisse of Good Earth Garden School has offered to teach her SIX WEEK Alaska regenerative gardening course to us! She is offering two different classes. (Don’t worry – we are recording it so if you miss one, you can still catch up!) Ellen has taught this class as a one credit course at the college for several years but is now teaching it through us at two valley locations.

CLASS DESCRIPTION:
Instructor: Ellen VandeVisse, Good Earth Garden School
Text: None required; you do need internet access & a printer
Description: The focus of this course is how to:
— raise a garden that is ecological, regenerative, & organic
–optimize soil health
–successfully produce an abundance of food within Alaska conditions
With lively labs, instruction, and an armload of hands-on materials, you’ll learn how and why to:
–grow tasty, nutrient-dense vegetables and fruits
–choose which fertilizers, microbes, and organic matter to apply (vs. guessing),
–manage pests and diseases non-toxically
–select your site, seeds, varieties, and methods of extending the season
–wisely apply crop rotations, cover crops, compost extracts, biochar
–design a working plan and a compost system
–construct a compost demo pile & make soil blocks
NOTES FROM ELLIE:
NOTE A: This is less expensive than my 1-credit college course. Yay!
NOTE B: You won’t get this information from free YouTube videos. I’ll be bringing my 35 years of Alaska experience.
NOTE C: This is an annual course, so please experience a season of gardening before taking this jam-packed intensive.

Also included is a field trip later in April or May (more info will be available during the class) AND recordings of all of the classes so even if you miss one, you can still catch up and you won’t miss a thing!

Address is 1887 E Fairview Loop.
Please instruct your guests to come in the yellow door and all the way to the top of the stairs, or use the brown door on the far right. The elevator is at the brown door. The yellow door stairs are straight up; the brown door stairs wind around.
Elevator is also great for taking supplies up and down. There are wheeled carts for you convenience.
Parking is out front, with overflow parking available in the rear. Please park perpendicularly or diagonally, where space allows, to maximize parking. IT IS OK TO PARK IN FRONT OF THE GARAGE AND HOUSE, unless otherwise noted. Please do not block the path to the rear on the right.
