Permaculture in Alaska: Saturday, March 11 at 10 am
DETAILS: PERMACULTURE – ALASKA REGENERATIVE FARM/GARDEN: Learn soil regeneration tactics that work in Alaska! The class takes place on Saturday, March 11, from 10 am – Noon.
Each participant in this interactive Alaska homestead class will learn about soil regeneration, including how to improve your soil naturally, using methods that truly work in Alaska!
This class will be taught by Triffawna Witt, owner of Alaska Traditional Preservation.
In this interactive class, we will discuss:
- The history & future of permaculture
- Zoning/Mapping, Design, Identifying Niche.
- Regeneration, Stabilization, and Abundance.
- Integrating animals and plants. Community, Companion, and Rotational.
- Smaller Concepts: No-Till, Animal Grazing, Hügelkultur or Lasagna Styles, Bee Yards, Orchard, Food Forest, Swales Natural Energy, Guild Planting
- Boreal Forest Deforestation, Alaska Climate, Rise in Farm Boom & Farmland Preservation
Seed Starting & Gardening: Saturday, March 18 at 10 am
DETAILS: SEED STARTING & GARDENING: Learn all about growing a successful garden in Alaska from seed to harvest. The class takes place on Saturday, March 18, from 10 am – Noon.
Each participant in this interactive Alaska homestead class will learn many valuable tips about seed starting, hardening off, growing your garden, and harvesting tips for a successful Alaska garden! PLUS, the class includes a few Alaska hardy seed packets you can take home and plant in your own Alaska garden!
This class will be taught by Triffawna Witt, owner of Alaska Traditional Preservation.
In this interactive class we will discuss:
- Proper methods and timelines for starting seeds
- The importance of hardening off your plants before moving them outside
- Starting seeds outside for faster-growing plants
- Weed control, fertilizing, and permaculture
- When and where to put plants in your outdoor garden
- Know when to harvest and what to do with your garden to prepare for next year
Greenhouse Growing in Alaska: Saturday, April 1 at 10 am
DETAILS: GREENHOUSE GARDENING SUCCESS: Do you have a greenhouse that you feel like you aren’t quite utilizing to its full extent? Or are you considering building a greenhouse but aren’t sure where to start? Larry Harris of Matanuska Gardens is a longtime greenhouse gardener. He’s full of wisdom in all things having to do with growing in a greenhouse including tips and tricks to keep the costs down from building to watering to cooling. The class takes place on Saturday, April 1, from 10 am – Noon.
Each participant in this interactive Alaska homestead class will learn many valuable tips about all aspects of greenhouse growing from vegetables to flowers, growing in ground and in containers. He will be talking about mold and pest control, soil, heating and cooling, fertilizer, venting, heat, planting dates, irrigation, and so much more!
This class will be taught by Larry Harris, former owner of Matanuska Gardens. Larry is known to “larry-rig” things to accomplish a needed purpose at a much lower cost. You’ll learn so many money and time saving tips that really work in this class.
In this interactive class we will discuss:
- Construction
- Growing methods
- What plants do well in a greenhouse vs outside
- Venting and mold control
- Pest control
- Fertilization
- Heating & Cooling
- Planting dates
- Irrigation
- … and so much more!
